Anne,
Why new wheels??
My Disco came with 18s...I want to go to 16s. The lady that had it before me was a real estate agent and used it to impress her clients, schlepping them around to look at houses. If I were just going to use it on the street, then I'd keep the 18s...but I really want to off road. The tires I have on now are not off road at all. And I know that in the long run, 16s will be cheaper. I was looking to trade, but I might have found 4 stock alloy wheels for $200 in Tucson. Then maybe I can throw my five 18s on craigslist and some fancy pants person from Sedona or Scottsdale will want them and I can get some money for my brake rotors/pads and a down payment on suspension

My goal is to be able to participate in trail runs with the AZ Land Rover Owners group on the weekends and learn about off-roading through hands on experience. I'm really not comfortable doing trail runs with these wheels and tires. My tires seem to get pinched a lot...if that makes sense at all.

Edited to ask: How long with 1/4" tread last with normal driving (no off road) until I really really really need to change them? Maybe if I get a buyer for my 18s that money will go to all new tires and a spare...

anne you are on the right track with the 16's... much better for offroad... anyone on to an update... so the lift is great, went to a friends property where he keeps his horses and me and a couple other guys went and climbed over some downed trees and things like that... worked fantastically... only problem is on the way home my brake pedal felt soft and started goin all the way to the floor... so i made it home and checked in the driveway, and well, i got a problem... when the brake pedal is pressed, fluid pours out of my passenger rear caliper... not just a drop, i mean it pours out... so i guess a new set of rear calipers will be ordered asap... figures i would fix one thing only to find somethin else to thin out my wallet...

You may not like it, but you should probably replace the other side too.

How long a tire lasts all depends on road conditions, driving style and a bunch of other stuff. 1/4" tread on the road should last quite a while if just driving roads.
