Putting a 4.0 in my '04
I bought a 2002 yesterday with a 140k (km) on it and i am gonna put it in my 04. No misfires, sounds great.
Only problem is no sai while our 04 does. I know people will say swap the heads, and put new gaskets on but i would rather not touch it and just put it in.
What is the worst that will happen? Engine codes?
I can live with codes.
Edit: We do not have emissions tests here.

yeah if you don't need the sai......do away with it
there is a write up on here I think
edit maybe not, but it looks like a new ecu will fix the code issue

Sure, but what if you break or strip a head bolt? or have to plane a head? Where do you stop? Check the bearings?
Idk, it runs good, think I'll just put it in and pray.

I agree. Doing the heads out of the car is heaven. I bet it takes half the time than it would in the car. The first head gasket job I did was out of the car and the whole time I was wondering why everyone says it is a pain!
Any info or tips would be appreciated.
Both were SAI equipped. I have to admit that I did not do the swap, a local mechanic did. I was there for a day and it was a direct plug and play swap.
Putting an SAI motor in a non SAI car would be easier I would think(just plug the ports)If it were me I would put the SAI heads on and make it a plug and play swap. That is the only difference in the motor.
