Pvc Kit for a D1?
Okay,
So I'm doing some general checks on my 98 D1 and wanted to check the Pcv valve.
(the truck is running good). However I don't see a PCV anywhere. As per the dealership (I called two different LRships) they tell me that D1's don't have a PCV.
However on atlantic british they sell a Pcv kit. It's two hoses and one "Oil Seperator" that is located in the valve cover. http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9205G.cfm
Now I just replaced my head gasket and CLEANED everything including the inside and out side of the valve covers and as may vacuum hoses as I could. I never saw this "oil seperator".
I'm I missing something?
I've checked the Rave and It shows small canister type Elements mounted to the Valve covers, but again-I got nothing on my truck. Nor do I see (on my truck) what is pictured on AB's site for the "oil seperator".

That little plastic do-hicky in the pic on AB's site is the oil separator.
It allows the crank case gases to get sucked into the engine and burned but not the oil.
If it is missing (common) you should replace it.
If it is there then just clean it with carb cleaner and let it dry.
Use needle nose pliers to pull it out.
In the future you can replace the PCV hoses with just plain old vacuum line (I used old lawnmower gas line).

Well I recheck the Pass side V/C and low and behold, the Oil Seperator is broken off way down in the V/C hole. Not sure where the rest off it went, but I'm guessing it's aways been this way. Like I stated earlier, I cleaned everything when I did the head gasket, and I'm not sure why I mised this. I'll try and dig it out tomorrow and get a new one. Thanks for make' me look twice....

The head of the oil separator broke off when I tried to remove mine. I ended up getting it out with a pair of needle nose, but it took a little bit. I replaced both hoses and the separator with the AB kit. After changing the oil (switching to synthetic) and replacing the pcv stuff my 97 quit leaking oil and the check engine light went off (no it didn't burn out - I checked). My separator was gunked up pretty good so this seems like a worthwhile bit of maintenance.
