Avoid quest offroad
Avoid quest offroad at all cost , the owner jason doughty is a rip off artist . The promise of a rebuild on a discovery turned into a total nightmare. Speaking with an attorney on a possible lawsuit .

I got ripped off by them for around $4g. They never did the work, according to two other mechanics I brought my truck to after getting back from them a rebuild that was knocking, tapping and overheating. Jason is a classic BS artist. Promised the world and delivered nothing and his warranty is worth nothing. I know a guy that has been waiting years for him to return to them a warrantied job. There is a group of us who have gotten together online with almost identical stories of how this shop completely ripped us off. On my truck he was supposed to check for a slipped sleeve/cracked block before rebuild. What kind of rover specialist wouldn't do so before a rebuild? This was the problem with my engine, which he didn't catch....(because the rebuild was never done in the first place) and I had to pay another $5g to deal with that after getting back Jason's supposed rebuild. Please....anyone reading this....do yourself a favor and stay away from Quest off-road.

Not a legit LR Mechanic.
Yea I am on an email chain with 13 people who have been ripped off by this disgraceful business. We have loads of evidence. I came across this thread a while back but I am coming back around to warn people. Check the Yelp reviews or the Facebook review's and check out this guy named Joshua Primroses post. Its very detailed.
I am embarrassed to say how much $ I am out and I have an open case with the DMV on this bad repair job. If you want to try them anyway, then go for it.. but I will bet you that like a poster on this thread said: itll turn into months and then years as a lot of the 13 people on the email chain have experienced. I have been dealing with my situation 2 years (in 3.5 months). I know Jason will know this is. I don't care. I would post with my own name but I would like to avoid any personal harassment from this business's friends and such. If my name is posted and I am subject to harassment I will be quick to press charges and go after them FYI for when they read this. Somehow the state of NY gave him a dealership license (the business in his wife's name).... DM me if you want more information.
I just don't care anymore about not posting online due to my DMV investigation. I am going to have to hire a lawyer at a certain point. Just read the Yelp reviews and take into account that not a single satisfied customer who had an actual LR rebuild has posted... if there has been a post they havent shown before and after or any proof. All of their feedback is for basic tuneups and detailing. They are not skilled LR mechanics. I just feel like a horse's *** for getting ripped off by this "business."
Had I done my due diligence I would have avoided this situation. This is why I am now posting. When my case is completed with the DMV I will post the results. I also will likely go after them in Civil Court as I believe it is my right regardless of the outcome of the DMV investigation.
Thanks for your time and I hope this post is taken seriously. And again, DM me for more information if you cannot decide to avoid them at all costs based on the number of angry people who have been ripped off.

I sent my vehicle to Quest OffRoad before delving too deep into the online reviews, and for a moment, after reading these forum posts, was a bit concerned....but after Quest completed a COMPREHENSIVE rebuild of my 2003 Discovery, I have to say, I"m extremely impressed.
Do they have some negative reviews, sure, but here's the thing, I don't know many truly skilled mechanics that would be hired for an HR position. My old Saab mechanic, Alan Scott, out of Brattleboro VT literally used to scream at customers and they would leave in tears, because he literally had a zero tolerance policy for fools....He was cantankerous, had a short fuse, and you had to earn his respect, but Jesus Christ is he an amazing mechanic. Literally, the best in the business.
Back to Quest...
I was originally quoted around 20k, by my local Land Rover spot, to do an engine swap, rust repair, suspension upgrade, body lift, new wheels and tires, and a few other things. Jason did the same work, in half the time, at half the cost. The guy is super knowledgeable, and sources parts cheaply. This is one of those shops that has dramatically lower prices then shops in Boston, NYC, or Washington D.C, ONLY because they are off the beaten path and not as well known, but i imagine this won't be the case for long.
If you need to do an expensive Land Rover repair, seriously, give them a call. Once you chat with Jason for awhile, you'll send your rig there.

Has anyone had any experience with these guys, first-hand or otherwise? They come up on every Craiglist search for Discos in the metro area. They're a good 4 hour drive from the city but seem dedicated to Land Rovers in a big way. https://newyork.craigslist.org/jsy/c...789274595.html

Hey my friend, I have. Couldn't be happier. I think the majority of the bad reviews were from people who wanted a 20k rig, for 7k, and wanted it done fast. Lofty goals, versus the harsh reality of Land Rover ownership costs get people salty, and Quest Off Road took some heat that wasn't deserved. At least, that's what it seems like. My experience couldn't have gone smoother, plus, Jason was super happy to give discounts for cash payments, and encouraged me to find my own parts (roof lights, high lift jack, etc) so i wouldn't incur any of his shops charges on sourcing them. He also steered me away from some VERY expensive build options, that a dishonest shop would have pushed me towards.
there are a lot of people who would disagree with your assessment of Quest and its owners. Its far from the truth. There’s just so many people who have been ripped off by him it’s laughable he’s still in business. And laughable you managed to get a working LR from Jason! That’s never ever happened!
