Default A question about CDL options

I’m giving serious consideration to adding Center Differential Locking to my 2000 Discovery. Assuming that the capability is already in the transfer case, which it seems to be, I’m trying to figure out which of the four approaches that I’ve seen makes the most sense: buying a CDL kit from Ashcroft, finding a Disco I CDL shifter, finding a 2004 Disco mechanism, or trying to build something myself (a long-shot, but doable), though there may be option of which I’m not aware.

Assuming that price is of no consequence to the decision (though it certainly is), is there any consensus as to which of the above would be best? I’m leaning toward the 2004 Disco shifter, but thought it best to poll the experts before stumbling into such a project.

Any advice on this question will be appreciated.

In my humble opinion the DI linkage would be best because it is a actual solid rod linkage.
The '04 uses a cable, kinda like the hood release cable, it is sheaved in a housing and can chafe inside the sheaving and stick.
I have personal experience with the DI linkage and none with the '04.

I installed the D1 Linkage, works great and it was not too difficult.

Steve I just noticed your location.
I will be up there for the holiday weekend, I plan on hitting a few trails with IHScouts and maybe JJay.

Default Thanks

Nice to hear from you Spike. And thanks for the advice on my CDL project. It looks like a D1 linkage is the way to go.

Hope you enjoy the holiday weekend and the local trails.

If you are interested in tagging along let me know.

Last I knew Gene's had a few Disco's in stock.

If you need a D1 shifter, contact Paul Grant, his number is in my signature section, pretty sure he has one.
