Default Quick question from a new DII owner

So, maybe this is a dumb question.....please forgive me.

I just bought an '01 DII - how do I tell if it has the CDL or not?

The sticker in front of the HI/Lo selector will show that it locks all four wheels. But to really check for sure. You need to crawl under her, locate the transfer case. feel in front right part for round rod coming down from the HI/Lo shifter or a nipple sticking up, if it was not hooked up from the factory.

80% chance you will have one. Look at the enclosed picture, if your has the round plate, held down by 3 bolts and a nipple in the middle of it, you have it and only need the linkage to get you over the trails.

No, there is no CDL D1 type sticker in a D2 with the exception of the 04.

01d2Jeff welcome to the world of a cool 4x4 and dont let the small things that fail on a Rover get you down. These rovers are unique rides and people will envy you. Probably even your Jeep friends, but they will not admit it. Remember preventative maintenance is the key to enjoyment.

Thanks for the heads up on the sticker Disco Mike.

Thanks for the kind words! I've done a lot of research before purchasing, and I've always wanted a d2.

Is there any way to tell from inside the rover if it has a CDL?

No, you must get used to crawling under it, may as well start now....

And download that RAVE tech manual, covers everything on D2

I think you are asking in case the PO installed one right? If so, try sliding your high low range lever to the left, that is what would engage the CDL. I installed one on my 01 D2, and it was not that big of a job, just want to find a D1 complete lever and it goes on pretty easily.

If you install one go ahead and remove the locking shift solenoid on the back of the case as they seem to fail. This prevents you from shifting from high to low, or back. I wish I had done that when I had my console out!

Have fun with your Disco, I love watching the Jeep guys turn their head as I drive by...
