Screw my advice...because my damn drive shaft WENT OUT AFTER THE REBUILD. Sucks. I'm wondering if the center ball kit went out...I've read a few posts on here that some have had trouble.

Why do I have to rebuild it all over again when I just did?!?!? AHHH!
I want to get rid of this thing! Irma is a bitch!

- Was it lubed properly after the rebuild before it was put in to service?
- Did you lube it every oil change, or more often?
- When it was lubed, did you pump in grease until you could see new grease coming out of all 4 seals on each u-joint (this is the proper way to lube a u-joint)?
If no to any one of the questions, that's the likely reason.
Of course, it could have been a poor rebuild job.
What brand of u-joints does Carquest sell?
Did you have any vibration after the rebuild that wasn't addressed? That would cause premature failure.

This rebuild didn't even last 10,000 miles. I bought Neapco parts (whatever was recommended on here).

No vibration...nothing. Just a sudden squeak...a squeak I know well...and over the course of 5-10 miles it deteriorated to a horrible sound. I had to get my car towed AGAIN from Phoenix because I was stuck down there.

As soon as I get the driveline fixed, the window regulator replaced, the sunroof fixed, and the door actuator fixed...I'm trading this in.

My Land Rover was an expensive MISTAKE. I'm not happy. I've put more $$ into this car then I've paid off on my auto loan. I'm willing to go upside down to get into a car that is less expensive to fix and the door will actually work and the window will go down and the sunroof maybe would work and not get stuck open. I've never had these types of problems with my 1997 Corolla or even my 1989 Ford Escort Station Wagon. If I were more independently mechanically inclined, then maybe. But who am I kidding? I make next to nothing at my job and I can't afford a Land Rover. End of story. I should have been smarted in my choice in vehicle.

I'm happy that most on here get their trucks running. I, for one, don't have the money anymore to waste on this thing. I'm horribly depressed about this car. It's now parked in the driveway until I figure out what to do.

That would point to one of two things. A defective part, or incorrect installation of the parts.

As for the other issues, I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience. Hopefully you'll have a better experience with your next vehicle.

That means the driveline shop messed it up. Argh. I didn't do the rebuild myself, though I took it to someone who knew what they were doing.

PLEASE don't compare a Disco to a Ford Escort!! lol
Maybe you could get a Disco 1.... they seem to have less issues than the D2.

Annie Mae, do you have any interest in working on it yourself? There's nothing wrong with not wanting to, lots of people have no interest in working on their cars. But if you do, then don't let lack of experience daunt you. Even if you don't want to take the manual in hand and go at it, I'm sure there are people in your local club who'd be happy to come over and give you guidance for repairs for nothing more than a six pack.
Not having tools isn't a show stopper either since for much less than the labor costs you can usually buy enough tools to get a particular job done on it.

Or it could have been a defective part. I've been working on cars long enough to know that defective parts do come through. Not terribly often, but it happens. I once spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out a misfire problem with my '62 land rover because 3 out of the 4 new brand new spark plugs I put in were defective. I'd changed out the distributor and some other things at the same time, so of course figured I'd screwed something up. LOL
