Default Racks, Tinting, Leaks

Hey boys and girls, I have a few questions for you all.

1.I need a ski rack for my Disco 1, should I go yakima, thule or a hitch attachment? does anyone out there have a packasport and if so what mileage dip did it cause?

2. I think I have a leak in one of my rear windows, the seals look ready to crack and it is wet under the carpet in the back, what can I do to replace the seals? can I do it myself?

3. Finally I would like to tint out all of my windows on my D1, I like the look of the black back windows as well as the privacy it provides, how much has this cost you all and any suggestions on percentage of tint to use on each window?

Thank You much and keep on driving.

The leak needs to be checked carefully. Are you leaking water from the side rear windows or the Alpine windows? If it is the Alpine windows you need to pull the window inspect for rust, which is a common problem, fix it and install new seals.

I have a 2000 Discovery II, It came with the windows tinted from the rear doors to the back window. I thoght that looked pretty stupid, so I had the front windows tinted to match. It cost $120. for the two front windows and it looks much better now. I went to Jay's Tint & style in Kirkland, Washington. He had to match the color to the back window's. It is from Johnson window films Greyston GSN40. Medium tint is the maximum legal tint for the front windows.

I bought a Yakima rack from REI and I love it! It connects to the factory bars that run along the drive and passenger from front to back. I bought a separate clamp for my snowboard and I got the brackets to hold my canoe snug. It was all together a few hundred dollars but I love it.

You can order replacement seals from Rover. If you don't have the tools, it may be a little harder to pull the windows out but it can be done.
By the way on your window tinting, make sure that your state will allow you to tint the front drivers glass, many won't and it is a healthy fine and you will have to remove it.

I bought a hitch receptor bike rack for my 2000, but discovered quickly that most are designed for vehicles with lift gates. You can still get into the back, but it's a pain. If you're ok with the roof rack, go that route. Get a ladder.
