Default RE: Radiator Health

Tomfraser was right.
So I went to a nice looking all-around car service shop that can service radiators too.
I saw a sign there that says "radiator descaling services" So I figured they know what they are doing (it's a big service center)
Went in and the attendant accommodated me and called their "radiator"guy. As soon as the he saw the "Land Rover" brand, he simply said "can't do it"
He said they have to remove the t/stat with special tools? blah blah blah. So I went to a gas station that also offers radiator services, they just looked under the radiator and they cant find the drain!.
I saw smaller radiator service centers along the way but it made me think twice that they might just "experiment" with my rover.
I figured this is no use...I'll just go to a guy who knows land rovers to have my radiator flushed and make sure that they follow Spike's walk through.
DiscoMike when you say "replace the t/stat" you mean just put the "old" t/stat back in place and not replace with a new one right?
Cheers.

For some strange reason LR does not put petcocks on their readiators, you need to remove the lower radiator hose to drain the coolant.
Yes replace the thermostat.

Crazy LR, always wanted to be different.
Why do we need to replace the old one with a new one when its not broken to begin with?

You will not know when your thermostat goes bad, but your engine will.
Your MPG will drop and the truck will run rich.
It is a preventive measure, where I live you know whan your t-stat goes bad, your temp gauge reads cold and your heater does not work and your MPG drops in half.
For the V8 it is a $12 part, for your TDI...I do not know.

Never take it to the dealer, all they know what to do is replace parts and even that they are bad at.
Mike you are never going to get the coveted Retired Service Manager of the Year Award with advice like that!
