Default Radio Backlight

Hi all, I've searched through the forums and haven't found any specific answers to how to (or if you can) replace the display backlights in the stock stereo head unit. I recently updated the dash gauges, climate controls and clock with LEDs in my '03 D II, and they're all much brighter (and work now). So when my headlights are on, I turn my dimmer way down so that the dash bulbs aren't too bright. The only problem is that when I do this while there is still light outside (dawn, dusk, dark and stormy days), I can't see the radio display.

I would like to replace the display lamps with LEDs in the stereo head, but I just haven't been able to find any information around someone doing this successfully.

Thanks for any help.

Here's a picture from when I had the headunit out and apart. I didn't have the screen off but the buttons all have SMD LEDs beside them

Thanks Sandman, I guess that’s about what I expected. Any idea where the display gets its illumination, or is that perhaps integrated into the LCD somehow?

Much appreciated.
