Radio Display Fading
Guys,
I have a 2002 Disco II that the radio display keeps fading on. What I mean is that when the radio is first turned on you can see what station it is on. Then it just kind of fades to all green. Like any man I tap the top of the dash board and it comes on only to fade to green again. Any tips?
Thanks guys.
Larry

RE: Radio Display Fading
If you have a spare radio, you can exchange the display / control buttons circuit board. It sits behind the dark grey / black (04) front face.
It is much easier to replace the whole radio.
OE LR radios are relatively cheap. You can find them on EBAY for $40. Some are priced as high as $200.
2000 through 2004 radios (AM/FM/CAS/CD Control) are all the same (excluding NAV). It is a a myth that 2003 and 2004 are different. It is not correct, they all fit.

RE: Radio Display Fading
Larry, you need special tools to slide in the two slots on the upper rim of the radio face, to depress the locking latches, so you can slide the radio out. I made my own tools, basically two flat blades that are 4 inches long that have the width of the slots in the radio.
After the radio is pulled out, (Make sure you know the code if it is programmed into the radio) before you disconnect the three plugs in the back.
Now that you have the radio out, look at the sides and you will see two small Phillips head screws that hold the plastic face to the radio body. remove them then gently pry the edge up and out and you will have the front plastic face off. Below it, you will find the display and control buttons circuit board.
Personally, I would put a used radio in it and be done with it.
