The dealers can look it up. They need the serial number on the back of the radio or the vin it came out of. If you dont have those the only way to recover it is to partially disassemble the radio and read the eprom that stores the code with specialized equipment.
theres also an ugly hack you can do to sort of bypass the code. If you remove the eprom and leave it out the security code becomes press any button that isnt a number 5 times.

I have the same issue with a lost code in my Disco II. Strangely, if I just hit number 1 four times in succession, the radio
comes on OK, but then switches off after 3 minutes—or if the engine is turned off. Start the engine again, do the same
procedure, and get another 3 minutes worth of listening LOL.
