Smile Radio Code Entry

I was researching an old thread about radio code entry recently. I thought it might be a good reminder to post the procedure I recently found here.

If you lose power to the radio or disconnect the battery, then the radio must be reset with a factory code. Hopefully, you will have that handy. It is a 4 digit code, and initially you would think that the entry method is to use the radio digits 1 - 6 to make this happen. NOT the case. The first clue for me was that several of my digits are larger than 6. Hmm.

Ok. When you turn the ignition on, the radio display will initially show "Land Rover", followed in few seconds by "CODE"
Press "1" to select the first digit indicator. The display will show "0"
Press ">|" to step the number forward the proper code.
Press ""1" again to select and advance to the next digit
Rinse and repeat to enter all four digits.

Best Wishes!

My stock head unit is mostly disconnected from power, sometimes for weeks (because I removed it and I am playing around with it from time to time) and it never asks for a code.

Same. I have never once had to enter a code in a stock unit and I've swapped them multiple times, as well as leaving them disconnected for months or even years.

I read somewhere a while back that for the radio security feature to be operative it must have been activated. In other words, the default option was that no code was required. It sounds like Discorama, mollusc and I have trucks where the feature was not enabled, thank goodness.

Snap a pic of your radio please. D2 does not have a radio code in US. Are you talking about a D1?

I don't know the history. I have a 2004 Discovery and it requires a radio code if you disconnect the battery.
