"It's almost like these power options have made people weaker and less in tune with their vehicles."

Totally agree... My other car is a 69 VW bus. Drum brakes and no power steering. Twice the stopping distance or accelerating distance as a modern car. I'm a believer that every new driver should learn on a car like this, Only then can they appreciate the power they wield with their last possible second stopping rather than a gradual slow down then stop, etc.

I learned to drive with a 69 Valiant. I remember my dad telling me you have to pump the brakes after going through puddles or when its raining to dry the shoes,

I mean honestly common sense has to come into play eventually lol.

For example I towed a 97 D1 XD home on Sunday 7hr round trip with my 99 D2!!! With common sense I knew I wasn’t going to accelerate fast and I also knew my stopping power was going to be greatly reduced. I planned my route accordingly (less stop & start the better), chose a day most people were either at church or sleeping in, and I didn’t have a single issue. If I had done this without using any common sense I’d have killed myself or others pretty quickly especially driving straight thru Houston, TX!!!!

All this automated stuff IMHO just makes for a worse driver. Like backup cameras, blind spot monitoring just to name a few. Darn new drivers rely 100% on the screen vs ever thinking to look up & actually see where they’re headed, or relying on the blind spot monitors vs actually checking your mirrors, and keeping aware of what is around you at all times!! The auto pilot Tesla’s and LAZY careless drivers engaging it & napping on their way to work = abusing a system designed to just keep you straight & in your lane. Auto distance cruise control, and auto braking = are two things I’ll never have on a vehicle. All it takes is a sensor to fail & look out... Kinda like the Boeing 738 Max 8 and it’s apparently cheap/delicate sensor that failed & caused 300+ people to perish....

Airbus 320 did fantastic when it first came out & crashed at the Paris Airshow when it’s computer got confused...

I prefer manual or power assist, but fully electronic = not my cup of tea, but common sense has a lot to do with it!!

It’s called a “vented” disc for a reason. Vacuum or no vacuum the brakes would heat up the same. Just takes a lot more force to stop. But you still have brakes!!!

sooooo, i shouldn't try to coast a few miles to the next gas station?

I suppose I'm missing the above point.

The "heat" is at the rotor where it always would be, not the brake booster where the vacuum is.
So what difference does it make at the booster if my brakes are hot?
