Is the Range Rover 4.6 (P38) different than the Disco 4.6?
This may be a stupid question and would probably be to good to true, but I am asking anyway.

Depends.
Some P-38's used the GEMS engine, even came in a GEMS 4.6, later models used the Bosch engine.
So you will need to see a pic of the engine.

they are pretty much the same except that the crank position sensor mounting is different between the two. If you are looking to put a 4.6 into a D1 the GEMS 4.6 is the way to go. If you are going the other route and need a donor to fit into a later bosch motor car then it will require a little bit of modding..
I was thinking a RR 4.6 into my 04 Disco. I could pick one up, rebuild it at a leisurly pace and be ready when my 04 goes south. I am one of the tickin', bangin' Disco owners group!
Has anyone done this? Would there be computer issuses? Electrical issuses?

I was looking on Atlantic British site, the cam is the same, the crank is the same, the pistons and rings are the same, the lifters and pushrods are the same. It has to be the same engine doesn't it ?
I have already found one close by, just want to know for sure.

overall its the same block as the 4.0, different crank and pistons are what makes the bump in displacement. IIRC like i said before i think the only real difference between the bosch and gems motors is the crank position sensor mounting. Same bore between both the 4.0 and the 4.6 blocks. I will defer to someone who has actually laid hands on a 4.6 block though..
