Ratcheting noise from the gas cap

Ratcheting noise from the gas cap
My 2003 Disco is making a ratcheting noise from the gas cap...it sounds like a very rhythmic, loud and persistant cricket. I'm guessing that it's sucking in air? Does anyone have any ideas about what or why? Thanks!

When is it doing this? All the time, when driving, when stopped?

Makes the noise even if I'm parked, it's just at longer intervals between chirps, and just replaced the u joints so I'm pretty sure it's not them, although just you saying that made me feel a little nauseous, Bundu.
