rattling tailgate TSB
Hello all. I purchased my first Landrover about a month ago (06 LR3 SE) and overall I am very impressed. I've been a loyal Jeep customer in the pastbut became disenfranchised when they eliminated leases and gave me a terrible offer to purchase. I never thought I could afford an LR3 but took advantage of the 3.9% on CPOs. Way more luxury and capability than the '06 Grand Cherokee Limited!
My first question, and I'm sure there will be more to come, is in regards to the Tailgate TSB. My LR3 tailgate has begun to rattle horribly, leading me to believe that the previous owner never had it looked at. My dealership claims it will take several days to repair and I don't feel like waiting that long. Does anyone know if it's an easy fix, something I could do (many other vehicles have adjustable latches to remedy this sort of problem - I haven't purchased a service manual yet) or is it absolutely necessary that I have the dealer do it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. - Todd

Because it is under a TSB you must let the dealer take care of it, if you dont and in 5 years you want it fixed the right way...you'll be out of luck.
As for a loaner car, most dealers have them, or at the very least cheap rentals.
Some dealers alow you to rent a car off their lot for $25 a day without mileage fee's. But most import dealers offer free loaners when your car is in the shop.

Are the upper tailgate strut ball studs on the body loose? When they back out, over time, the threads they go into will break away from the body panel, requiring extensive body repairs. Let the dealer take care of it and don't be impatient. Impatience plays a big part in vehicles not being fixed right the first time.
Thanks for the advice, you're right, the dealer will supply a loaner at no charge, so I guess I'll get it done the right way. The dealer also said that my LR3's tailgate was serviced when the TSB was issued, so hopefully it just needs adjustment and hasn't evolved into a more serious issue. Since we're talking about TSB's,couldanyone enlighten me on the enhancement TSB? My LR3 doesn't seem to be suffering from any of the symptoms that were addressed by the previous TSBs, but I'd like to know that it receivedthe attention it required when the enhancement TSB was issued.
