Default Re-Gearing Question

Hey everyone, I'm looking to re-gear my D2 as 33s and colorado altitude and mountain passes don't mix very well. Hoping to make things a little easier on the already underpowered 4.0L.

I'm looking for pros and cons of regearing at each diff or just replacing the high gears in the transfercase. My gut says swapping out the T-case gears is easier but I'm also leaning towards adding a front locker so I may be opening up a diff anyways...Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that the stock carriers in the d2 are 2 pin & considered underrated if your going to utilize larger tires, any bit of off-roading & traction control.

Bill from GBR Utah spent a good chunk of time on the phone with me answering a lot of my gearing questions & concerns. He was a wealth of knowledge.

My carrier exploded & I was facing replacing it anyways, so I re.geared when I had them out.

After doing some more research, it looks like the greater benefit is to re-gear at the diffs vs just the high gearing in the T-case...for me at least. That way I can capture the benefits of the reduced gearing in low range as well, strength issues aside. If a lifted pavement princess that didn't get wheeled then the lower cost of just the hi t-case gear would probably make more sense.

I wonder, but don’t believe you’d have the gear inches in the transfer case sprockets to result in the subsequent effect at the wheels without going at the diffs

Ashcroft has new high gearing drives on their website and it looks like there are 2 options that would effect enough for a v8 gasser. Looks like that option is usually to go the other way ratio wise to help the diesels cruise on the highway better..
