Default Rear Chassis Rust

Anyone used the rear chassis replacement from Rovers North to correct the rust issue rear of the rear axle? Looks straight forward but involved. Drop the gas tank (looks to be the worst part) unbolt from the body, cut old frame, fit sleeved replacement chassis module, weld, replace bolts and gas tank. Job done.

Wouldn't it be nearly just as easy to box the frame?

If that requires welding, you would still need to remove the gas tank?

Yes, and also you cant fit the welder between the frame and the tank.

Where you you able to get any results? I have the same issue with my disco. I’m hoping someone can just patch up the rear chassis.

Patch it up nicely with a heavier gauge flat plate part by part. Remove gas tank. Looking at the rear chassis assembly replacement, I believe you have to cut through the floor area and remove carpet to be able to weld the top portion of the replacement. If not properly done, that will be a weak link as well. Depending how the rust affected the part, patch is stronger if properly welded.

X1 ............ yep, and one mistake and you'll need a good insurance policy handy for you and the truck if it's gasoline in the tank.
