rear pinion seal
the rear pinion seal of my 96 disco has a VERY slow drip, it seems to have been like that for a while but eventually will need to be fixed, is it a hard thing to do for a very mechaniclly inclined group of guys. i think i will have to have someone press the seal once i go to put one in, but im just not farmiliar with land rovers this being my first one. is this seal installation a hard thing to do or is it worth having someone do it for me. if anyone has any experieince with this any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,

RE: rear pinion seal
Anthony,
The first thing to check is the breather tube. It is bolted to the top of the diff tube. Unbolt it and make sure you can blow air thought it and that it is not all rusted up. If it is OK you will need to purchase A seal kit. This will include A new flange, seal, and hardware. This new design will eliminate the oil leakage.
Do you have A rubber flex coupler on the rear joint or A universal joint ?

RE: rear pinion seal
Yes and no. The new seal needs to be installed to A certain depth. It is written on the seal " install to A depth of X mm " There is A special tool to install it. You might be able to get around it by using A punch and measuring. Also need A torque wrench and A way to hold the flange while torquing.
