Default Pinion seal-Rear

Is this a common failure on Discos? 03 D2 with 96k. I just noticed the wetness from the pinion seal this past Sat. Anyways, I will get a chance in the next few days to get it done, any tips or advice, or is it straight forward to replace?

No, it actually isn't a common failure. That is actually one of the few places where they don't leak. It is pretty straight forward to replace and I can't think of any tips other than checking the fluid level and maybe even draining and adding new fluid while you're at it.

Check and make sure your axle breather is not clogged first.
I would hate to have you replace the pinion seal and then have it leak again a week later because the axle breather was clogged.

Mine leaked when I first got my truck, replace the axle breather and it has not leaked since.

Thanks guys, I didn't think about that..my A/C drain tubes were plugged when I first got this truck so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
