Default Rear Rotor Removal

2000 DII, planning on replacing the rotors and pads. I've done other vehicles before... easy task. Started with rear axle, only to find the head of the screw that holds the rotor on missing... and I cannot budge the rotor...

Any idea? I don't want to pry or hit (as in "with a hammer") anything that will give me more headaches...

I dont want to leave old rotors on the truck... with new ones just sitting there asking to be used!

Help,

Have you hit it with a rubber mallet?

I had to beat the fire out of it with a small sledge. Its hard to get a good swing but, try to alternate locations to try and rock it loose.

Going to have to hit it with a ruber mallet for sure. You can try spraying PB Blaster in all the areas where it is stuck. Let it sit for about 20 minutes to an hour then give it some good whacks with the rubber mallet. Your not going to hurt anything.

One thought make sure you have removed the keeper screw!

Smack the crap out of it, when all done, don't forget to do a 2 quart DOT 4 brake flush.

I have a short handled 8 pound sledge just for that job. It helps to have a big screwdriver or pry bar to turn the rotor and hit it in different spots to it comes off evenly, otherwise if you only hit it in one spot it will get cocked and won't go any farther. When you get it off, clean the hub with a wire brush and put anti seize paste on it.

Got it. Thanks... I am always hesitant to use a hammer when working on a car...
