Default Rebuilt Engine Running but We Have a Few Extra Parts Left Over

well the odyssey of the "free" D2 with a slipped sleeve that my son has been rebuilding is nearing its end.

After shipping the block to CA to get new top hats pressed in, rebuilding the motor (measuring and remeasuring with lots of plastigauge) and finally dropping it in (with a lot of trial and error on what went where -- lesson learned about documenting stuff).

We cranked the engine with the plugs out to get the oil pressure up, then put them back in and it turned over on the first crank. Did a 3x20 minute break-in at 2-3,000RPM, then have put about 100 miles on it so far with no issues.

OK, Not quite no issues.

We couldn't figure out how to mount one of the heat shields that is intended to protect the driver-side motor mount -- see pictures of the heat shield.

Similarly, we ended up with 2 bolts and sleeves/bushings that we could figure out where they went -- maybe they somehow hold the heat shield on :-)

Don't those bolts and spacers hold on the plastic cover that goes over the serp belt? I don't have mine anymore so I could be wrong.

x2 on what MADLANDS said. Just had my cover off, and those sure look like the same bolt sleeves.

My brother took cowls off, and we haven't put them back on yet, so that's probably it. Thanks.

Amazing that we didn't end up with a single extra nut or bolt -- or sensor or electrical connector or vacuum line or . . . .

Now about the heat shield. If anyone is getting under their D2 anytime soon, a picture of how this thing mounts would be greatly appreciated as we have tried every position and still can't figure out how this thing goes on.

Otherwise it runs great. Shocked that it turned over right away after not running for over a year and for having the motor out for over 4 months.

My son is loving the beast.

Beginners luck. When I was 15 and started messing with cars I always ended up with a boxfull of spare parts and bolts

IMO they look like heat shields and the bolts and spacers to hold them. FK where they fit as I'm not a Rover V8 person but I'm sure these guys will know.

The heat shield looks like the one that goes around the starter.

The sleeved bolts are for the serp belt cover at the PS and ACE pumps, I'm sure of it.
