Recommended brakes?
Over the last month my Discovery was making a whining sound during start up or while waiting at a stop light. Recently my 03' Discovery (43400 miles) just experienced the 3-Amigo's and the fourth 'brake' light turning on. The brakes started to squeak pulling out of the parking lot at a store in this very cold 30 degree Florida weather. The lights turned off and on for the next few days. I don't trust the dealership. I may consider taking it back to the place that installed the lift kit but it's about 1.5 hours away. We are on a budget and I feared this time period when things were going to start to happen for service but I'll need to take care of it either way since another vehicle is not in the picture.
If it comes to replacing the brakes/rotors what is the recommendation? And what can I expect for labor cost?
Thanks!

brakes wont do squat. you need the light diagnosed. Ask the dealer for diagnosis only. It cant be that bad. The dealer will give you a high bill for parts but at least the diagnosis wont be that far off.
I cant look codes up with a hand held device in three minutes with codes and a shotgun diag. 9 times out of ten the code tells you the problem. sometimes you have to diag. Rare on a disco two. Not so much on a disco one or newer style LR.

If it comes to brakes, I went with the EBC set up and really like it. Midas had replaced everything 10 months before I bought my truck. It was rubbing metal in a week. The EBC's have relatively low dust and a lot more stopping power! Atlantic British sells kits, and they have regular OEM kits that are pretty good.
Run it by a tire shop and have the brakes inspected. Most places will inspect for free, or will check for pad wear if you rotate your tires. Odds are you can just put new pads on, but if the rotors are bad, you will have to replace them. They are too thin to resurface.

I have read this 5 times and have no idea what you are trying to say here... But your advice saying brakes won't do squat is totally off. Brakes are what trip this fault. If he goes to the dealer, odds are the lights won't stay on (murphy) and he will drop $90 for nothing.
