Default Redoing tailgate +

I removed the rusty ladder (see discoloring at top of vehicle). Didn't realize I'd have to remove the tailgate handle too and the last inner nut that's tucked way in there.

Figured it would be a good chance to fix my tailgate which has been locked shut for years - except if opened from the inside. I immediately saw that problem in a loose arm that i tucked back in its palce. ill secure it better later.

Couple problems.

1. The tailgate hatch locked into a position that I cannot close the tailgate door properly. Need to figure that out.

2. The gasket that fits between the body and the latch has deteriorated and I cant seem to find that online. it was looking rough when it was on. I'm going to find a sheet of rubber and try and cut it to size.

Oh and I finished the suspension with the terrafirma rods. they should have made them the same silver color as the shocks and springs.

Need to do an alignment now....and soon i'll have to replace springs/shocks/damper.

I know that Paul Grant removes and sells the door gaskets, I don't know if he has shipping to your island nation.

British sites? DOOR SEAL REAR END DOOR DISCO > Rear End Door Assembly > Body > Body & Chassis > Discovery 1 - 1989 to 1999 > Discovery > Main Menu > Home > Britcar (UK) Ltd

The part number I keep seeing is ASR1070, which is black, seal, load/tail door. They made other colors, but those are not produced now.

the TF rods look nice, at least you can replace all the ends unlike the stock one.

hey guys! im really going to try and fab something. the rubber in the link is for the door itself. i want the seal for the handle...thats why i can use sheet i think.

don't want to buy them from Paul cause they'll still be ten plus year rubber...although i bought some other seals from him. i'm looking rubber sheet right now.

yes. these rods are forever. my mechanic is not impressed with the D2 after working on my D1. i did my ball joints as well. i hope the hubs are ok.

what about that tailgate lock. how do i get it out of lock position?

she's a sick woman, (PS I just tell that they are hers, the titles are in my name)

how about a piece of rubber roofing for your door gasket.
thin , tuff and will stand up to uv rays, you could probably get a scarp piece from a roofer for $5.00

well its cool she rides that bsa. i used to live next to the camden market and dream about having one of those english classics. i went italian by accident almost instead.

this is the gasket im talking about. i need only the cut along the edge to look good. id like a little thickness so im gonna try and buy cut sheet rubber. there may be a roofing product id use...im visualizing rubber underlay in sheet at the HD?

Funny, I always thought that Puerto Rico was part of the US. I would imagine that the USPS priority mail would be the most efficient. I used to use it to send samples to S. Korea and they would literally have it in a few days for not much money.
