I also replaced the leaking power steering line and old radiator with some fitment pieces from mjl1987’s radiator left in my driveway.

I decided to let it idle for an hour to make sure everything was good before I dropped another $2k+ on a lift and tires - well a little less. I’m buying the lift, mjl1987 owes me the tires.

Anyways, temps held at no more than 197 for idle until I heard a hiss and temp jumped to 210. I powers the rover down and had a look. It looks like the one o-ring that didn’t come with the kit blew, glad it was something simple.

I polished the pipe up and picked up an appropriate o-ring at the local parts store for $0.89 and everything was back to running normal.

Oh, and I threw in a new 180 thermostat somewhere in the midst of all this.

Turner who makes remanufactured motors recommends using this break in fluid in their rebuilt engines, especially for the first start up but really at ever oil change. I use it at every oil change. Not sure if it is worth it since many parts of the motor are old but might be something to consider.

COMP Cams 159 Engine Break-In Oil Additive, 12 oz. Bottle

Silver 12 oz bottle in case the link gets broken.

I appreciate it and I going to take a look into it. The whole top end is new, but the whole bottom end is old. I am interested in a zddp additive, especially after seeing the lifter condition after 82k.

Default New to D2 and also in NH

Just bought a D2 yesterday for 1500 and happened to come across this thread. I love it!

Obviously gotta replace a couple gaskets but my main problem is the parking pawl. You ever dive into the transfer case?!?!?
Where in NH are you?? My uncle and I run a frame off restoration in Milford.

Hey there, good for you let’s see some pictures! I haven’t been inside a transfer case but the parking pawl might be an easy fix if that’s all it is. I live in Manchester and work in Merrimack, mjl1987 and I are looking for people to go off-roading with if your up for it; and once the Land Rover is finally fixed haha.

Fascinating thread, and a great resource! Thanks for the pics and the commentary.
