Default Remote keyfob not working

Now here's an odd one:

2003 D2 V8. I locked it when I went away on trip and came back 3 1/2 weeks later to find the car's battery completely dead - so dead that the car wouldn't even unlock (by remote or by key, thanks to the deadlocks). Luckily, I found that the left rear door was unlocked (thanks to the faulty lock actuator) so managed to get in and open the bonnet (hood) and jump start it.

Now, though, I find that as well as the expected dead radio (I don't have the code and the Alpine unit will have to be sent away to be unlocked) and flashing M & S captions (cleared after a shut down and restart) the weird thing is that the remote fob in my key won't work.

It was working when I went away and recently had a new battery in it. Now, though, the vehicle just ignores it completely and I have to lock with the key. Remember, it was the Discovery that suffered the flat battery, not the fob.

Has anyone ever come across this before? If so, what was the fix?

got to the dealer with you reg.and they will give you the radio code.

also if you check the rave i think remember seeing something about syncing the remote,
something like put the key in the lock and turn it 5 times or something like that.

I got the code from a chap on ebay: LANDROVER RANGE ROVER P38 ALPINE AMR6284 XQD101550LNF STEREO RADIO CODES | eBay

Well worth £10 to be able to avoid having to do battle with the useless dealers they have here in Middle East

It could be your receiver has failed which is what happened to me after a period of no use.

It is positioned in the headlining just infront of the rear sun roof. Easy to change.

If you do decide to change it, you need the frequency, which is on the unit and order one off e-bay for a Rover 75. They are the same and the D2 but a third of the price.

Thanks Jerry - I wonder if the car battery going flat could have caused the receiver to fail?

The other thing it could be and worth checking before anything is that if the battery was flat for sometime, your BCU has "forgotten" the key codes.

The only way to check this is with someone you know has a Hawkeye/Nanocom or similar and with both keys re program. Procedure is in RAVE.

This maybe easier way to start in the trouble shooting sequence.

Richard,

I saw in another post that you are looking to buy a Nanocom. I have one and used the video to re-program a used (spare) key which I purchased from Paul Grant. It was a quick job. Hope this will be useful reference when you get the Nanocom:
