Remote start// how to use?!
hey everyone! So i bought a 2003 discovery 2 off the mechanic that works on my Porsche and the pervious owner had a remote start installed on it. I can’t get it working but every time it sets the alarm off and it’s me clicking the unlock button in my fob 10 times until it shuts off and turns the car on. Am i doing anything wrong? The remote start fob as a curved arrow (a refresh button) on it and it’s just a little black square fob. Any help would work amazing. I know people say remote start is bad for the car but i live in Michigan and it’s 20 degrees here and i need to warm it up before work, thanks a lot!
The D2 alarm seems to do more harm than good.
Myself and many have turned it off in the ecu.
That may help, but most likely it will only stop the alarm.
I've installed 3 remote starts over the years, but never on a LR.
Some are easy, some alarms cause headaches.
I am not certain, but I would think the Disco needs/has a key box somewhere in the remote start harness. Meaning an actual key in a box, wired to the truck. This is to bypass the alarm, and the only way on some vehicles(as said, I'm unsure if D2 is one of those).
The other problem is quality/longevity.
Of the 3 I installed, 2 of them lasted 4 years, the other, a few weeks. Then they went haywire.
You may have a simple problem, or you may have an old, no longer functioning remote starter.
Best thing is to see if anyone close by has a Nanocom or Hawkeye, those OB2 scanners have LR software, and the alarm can be turned off.
Trace the remote start wires for a key box also, and check for a key, one with the lock/unlock buttons. If there is one, try to lock/unlock the truck with the buttons.
If it won't, the key battery could be dead, and causing the alarm trigger and no start.
This can be a pain to find and fix. I'de love one on my D2, but given the D2's history of electrical gremlins, I'll pass for now.
