Yes, its purpose is to be in the way.

It keeps mud and sh*t from blowing up into the engine compartment when you smash mud...If your not going to slam the next community mud fest program, leave it out. MO

Actually, I think it may help with cooling the engine. With the guide installed and the hood closed in makes a "tunnel" that directs air over the radiator and manifolds, and down the back of the firewall.

I pulled mine off 2 weeks ago to replace the oil pan gasket, etc. I left it off because I wanted to make sure there were no leaks afterwards. Anyway, after removing the air guide I'm running about 2 degrees hotter on average on my ultra gauge.

This weekend I'll be installing oil pressure and coolant gauges from glow shift, I'll put the air guide back on and see if it makes a difference.

Hmm...I've wondered what the purpose was for those extra little yellow screw retainers on each side of the engine block. Guess mine was gone long before I bought it.

Is this part # KRB100751, listed as the skid plate, engine?

Jack up your truck under the cross member and it should spread the steering rods apart enough to slide it out, worked for me at least. It is nice to have out, spotting leaks and other maintained is a breeze, doesn't really seem any dirtier under there and if anything it's easier to clean anyway

Does anyone have a picture of what this looks like? It sounds like there were two versions on the Disco IIs, no?

I have an 04 with one that is pretty big with the round 1/4 turn plug that covers the oil filter.

I also have a 99' that had a cover that is less comprehensive and stops short before covering the oil filter.

Abran, can you snap a couple of shots of the two different types of lower engine covers?
