Default Remove Y Pipe

Anyone have a good write up on the process or any gotcha's. Mine is cracked in the usual place just below the flange.
I figured on dropping it and getting it welded, while I wait for the the new gaskets and stud kit.
As far as I can tell the process is :
  1. Drop the cross member
  2. Remove the O2 Connectors
  3. Support the exhaust
  4. Undo the Y pipe to manifold bolts
  5. Undo the rear 2 bolts
  6. ease the exhaust down and out to one side or the front
I am missing anything ?

When you get to the manifold nuts, go after the passengers side first. One stud/nut is a bit tricky to get an extention and socket on, kind of a blind removal. The drivers side are easily accessed, so save the best for last.

@The Deputy Those 6 little buggers at the Y pipe to manifold I have down pat, but that one is in a just nasty place.

Did this same thing a few months ago. Night and day difference in sound when you get those flange cracks welded. The process you have looks great! A couple 12" extensions and a wobble make the job more comfortable upside down, but not essential.

Just removed mine for a gasket swap. I snapped like 5 studs on the headers to y-pipe connections. Take it from me wire brush the threads super clean, soak the studs in the penetrating oil of your choice, and use impact tools. I wish you luck.

I just did mine a few weeks ago to swap gaskets. I recommend soaking all the nuts with penetrating oil a couple days ahead of time to really let it work in. Mine came off without much trouble and only broke one which i was able to replace with a bolt and nut.

Thanks guys I rtv'd the y-pipe to manifold gaskets about 3 weeks ago so those bolts are easy.

I was not sure if I could get exhaust out with Disco on the ground

I got another set of manifolds from parts truck, installed new studs, and replaced them along with the y pipe. I knew the studs were going to break when separating the pipes from the manifolds so I had them ready to go. If you get those nuts off without breaking the studs, consider yourself very lucky (soaked or not).
