Default Removing the harmonic pulley question

Maybe this is a noob question but my D2 is sitting in my driveway awaiting removal of the front cover to address routine maintenance: chain, gears, oil pump, and assessment of the cover.

I couldn’t get the cross member bolts off late at night and didn’t want to start hammering in the neighborhood. My plan is to get those off and replace with a spacer.

However, after that is addressed, the oil gets drained, and the pan comes off, the harmonic damper pulley needs to come off.

Can I impact that nut off?

I did this last year using the instructions in Spike's post #10 in this thread:

https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...-pulley-26926/

P/S. Make sure you remove the fuel pump relay before attempting to do this procedure.

I use an impact to get the HB bolt off. The only problem is the space between the bolt head and the radiator. A regular impact wrench is too big, I got a smaller air impact wrench that fits in between.

Thanks for everyone response, I should have mentioned, the front end is ripped out. No radiator, no battery, no power steering pump, no alternator, no alternator bracket, no power steering bracket. Lots of room.

My thought was I could remove the oil pan, wedge a 2x4 under the rods, and either use a break bar with the old polish wrench. Or I could impact it off.

I also have this weird crank shaft pulley tool? That I suppose threads into the pulley and has an open circle in it?

I thought I read somewhere that people just impact it off.

I made a really simple tool to thread into the pulley and hold it from turning

Yep with the pan off = quick and easy with a piece of a 2x4. Works well for the re-install as well.

It's way easier and can be done with the oil pan on to simply stick a longer 19mm socket through this hole in the oil pan. Worked perfectly for me a couple weeks ago. See post #6 >>> https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...05/#post732158

Adding my version... I used a rubber strap wrench around the HB, wedged appropriately to work against loosening / tightening. This is what I have (
Amazon set Amazon set
) , but HF has a $5 set. Not sure if the big one is the right size though.

This taken while tightening back on.

I am surprised that it didn't break when applying 200 lbs ft of torque.
