Removing SAI on a 2003
I’ve got a 2003 Disco with SAI. If I put in a new non-SAI ECU, could I uninstall all the SAI pump and junk?
(can a nanocom evolution turn off SAI functionality on the current ECU?)
Thanks,
Thomas

If you were to swap over a non SAI ECU, I am pretty sure it is possible. At that point you will need to sync up up the computers then remove/block everything involved with it. Also from my understanding the SAI system is "hardwired" into the ECU, so it is impossible to remove it through software but im not positive on that. From previous posts about this it seems like the majority of people want to get rid of it but its usually just not worth the time.
Interesting - the LEV classification must be the distinction. Anyone know how these were marketed back when they were originally for sale? I wonder if SAI was advertised as a feature or not, or if buyers were even aware of the distinction.
As an owner of a non-SAI truck, it seems like it's pretty nice to not have it. There's tons of room in the engine bay to work, and it's nice to not have to worry about failures or air leaks. Not sure that I'd bother ripping it out if the current system was operating correctly unless you needed the space for something.

I have one truck with SAI and one without. I've worked extensively on both (naturally -- they're Discos). Sure, the pipes can get in the way of some things occasionally, but I have always found a way to work around them just like I've had to with a whole lot of other weird design choices on the part of the Land Rover engineers. The system as a whole has only caused me one major problem so far, which is about on par with anything else on the truck. When I did the head gaskets, I twisted one of the pipes going to the SAI injectors and had to replace it. Beyond that, I replaced the foam intake filter with a K&N, and I had to replace the three little rubber mounts for the SAI pump. So long as nothing leaks, the system seems pretty benign.
