Default Replace original D2 radio with am/fm and 2 meter ham

It is time to replace the stereo on my 2003 Discovery 2. Instead of merely replacing the one radio, I would like to install two radios in the same place. One, normal AM/FM with bluetooth, etc. and a second, 2 meter ham. I am wondering if anyone here has done something similar and might have recommendations.

David

I am looking at getting my ham radio installed now. I was just looking yesterday and there is a nice place under the pull out cup holder to mount just the head unit of the ham radio (Yaesu 8800). Im thinking of doing that and mounting the core under or behind the dash somewhere and then a hood mount antenna bracket.

The way you are doing it is likely the better way. I really want to fit both radios in the current space for the stock one. I already have a CB under the seat and am thinking of mounting a scanner on the dash. I would like to at least try to keep everything organized.

I have my Kenwood D710G i changed my factory radio and picked up some motorola speakers got 4 needed maybe 2 ... thinking of putting the main where dc changer is sitting never to be used... then running the head up to ceiling center where overhead light console is... mounting the mic on dash someplace...

I've got a HAM radio install.

You can use the roof center console with a bracket and large washers. to hold it in. I've got my CB and HAM hung from there. Using the radio area is not such a good idea.

@LeatherBoots Post a photo of that - I was considering that install also but did not investigate how to hold it up there. The sun roof started acting up yesterday so I may be in there anyway.

Make sure to move the transfer case shifter through all positions before you mount the radio, so that your hand or the shifter don't contact the face of the radio after install.
