Default Tape and some adhesive removed to discover working sunroofs

I have unglued and untaped enough of both sunroofs that I am glad to say that they open! I assume they were taped up because they leak (there were still drips even with the tape). I assume, worst case, that I need to take the headliner down and remove the sunroofs to re-seal them and fix the drains. If so will they come out completely including those black trim rings? I would much rather finish cleaning the goo on the bench vs leaning over the roof on a latter.

Yeah, if you remove all of the little torx screws, the bottom tray will come down and the plastic trim will come off the top. Then you can clean and reseal. The plastic trim is sealed to the roof with a thin foam strip, I removed all of that and reassembled with a bead of RTV. No leaks for 5 yrs now.

Yes, you need to remove the headliner.

Sorry, yes. Headliner has to come out first.

You are talking about the thin metal tray on the inside of the vehicle right? Do you think black RTV is good for this sealing? Thanks!

Yes, the metal tray that holds the motor and slides. But you only seal the plastic cups in the corners, not the whole tray to the bottom of the roof. The long bead of sealant goes on the bottom side of the plastic trim before you reinstall it on the top of the roof. I used silicone for the corner cups and blue for the roof trim, but black would work fine too.
