replace PS pump or install new seal???
for all of you you have never seen the ps gasket it is like plastic, razor thin....i double replacing it with gasket material will be good due to tight tolerances to fit the pump back into bracket...it is very tight squeeze......better to use rtv if you are so incclined and let the rtv set for ahile before reinstall.....but i recommend a replacement pump......strongly........
Finally got it all back together. Ended up completing;
Long story short, the main gasket from the fixed fixes my PS leaks.
BTW, the 3 hoses for the PS from the stealership is $402.87 and $652.50 in labor. This is what they told me the problem was. So I went to roverparts and ordered the three hoses for $175.....only to find out they were wrong to begin with....at least i have new hoses.
$5,900 for dealership quoted to complete all the work
cost me about $2000 and 4 months of my time on and off.
- entire head gasket job
- had the head resurfaced and pressure checked
- completed the ABS fix (ABS Mod - LAND ROVER CLUB V.I. option B which fixed it FINALLY!!) NO MORE 3 AMIGOS!!!
- new plugs
- wires
- thermostat
- EBC Performance Brake Rebuild all around
- stainless steel brake lines
- new throttle plate and gasket

Hi,
I created a photo tutorial how to re-seal the power steering pump on Rover. I think it might come in handy for you, because this pump is the same as on some Land Rovers.
For tutorial please check the following listing:

Hope helps.

since this thread is back from the dead, has anyone tried using jb weld to reseal the pump? A local independent rover dealership said to use a thin coat of jb weld on the 2 halves to reseal. You can never take it apart again but, it should never leak again according to them.
I'd say using a universal gasket material is a better option. You'd get a thicker seal and it would still be serviceable unlike jb weld. This is what I've done and so far I've had no problems.
It should give a description of what each one can be used for. I got mine from autozone as well, it was the grey colored material. You'll probably want to torque the new seal over spec, just don't break the bolts.
I use a 1mm thick material with galvanized steel core. Such seals is here in the CR in more than 20 cars and neither leak again. I got it on the car 3 years and everything is fine.
Complete gasket can supply for £12 +£3shipping to UK.
Here is the photo of that gasket:

Anyone know where i can get the bolts that hold the bracket for the Power steering pump on to the engine? there are 3 of them on there. I cross threaded one of them when i was putting it back together for the 100th time. I have a leak in my PS system and like all of you I tried replacing the hoses first and now i have just broke down and purchased a new pump. my rover has 99,000 miles on it so i figure its about time anyway. So i need a couple new bolts. anyone know where to get them?
