My A\C compressor is stuck. The pulley won't turn which causes some issues when trying to run the engine

Looking at the RAVE, looks easy to replace, but is it possible without the right AC equipment? Can I drain refrigerant, replace the compressor, then take it to a shop to get it refilled/recharged? If not, do I need to have it towed to a shop to get the whole thing replaced?

X1 ............ more likely the clutch pulley bearing or the clutch stuck. It should be used every week on A/C for around 15 minutes minimum. As the saying goes, "use it or lose it". This is due to the liquid and gas seals hardening and all the gas escapes from the system. I know it's naughty (CFC's and all that), but, if you decide to let the gas go be sure to release the low pressure valve and not the high pressure and don't breathe the gas whatever it's not good for you.

i replaced the ac condenser on my svt raptor. you just need a cheap vacuum pump to remove all the moisture and refrigerant with compressor oil included in it .

 

Its not hard to do it and the reason they use r134 instead of r-12 is BC it's ozone friendly so don't worry about al gore. U can rent the stuff if u don't have it from auto parts stores. There are tons of videos to help n all a/c systems function the same so nothing special

It must likely is just the clutch, the little research I did a used compressor looked easier then replacing the clutch, but I'm open to ideas if anyone has experience changing the clutch only!!

Otherwise, sounds like I'll just follow the RAVE and probably have to ask more questions when I go to fill it back up in refrigerant


P.S. - It's been sitting for months with a slipped sleeve. I run it once/week just to get things moving. Didn't want to move this last time around...
