Replacing 1 Coil Spring?
Hi guys & gals,
I have a dilemma. I need to replace 1 broken coil spring on my 2002 Discovery II and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a reasonable replacement? I had the front 2 replaced with standard coil springs five years ago and I still have a rear spring broken.
Atlantic British has 4 new coil springs available for $279 but I don't really need four. There is a set of new Old Man EMUs for sale on ebay for $170, medium grade (?), which will be an inch and a half higher (most likely) than the front springs. Don't know if this will be an issue?
Any suggestions? I don't go offroad much, don't need anything fancy, I just want to be safe on the pavement.

Thanks drowssap - I probably could handle 1". I tote around a lot of heavy stuff so it probably wouldn't matter.
I was thinking of obtaining a used coil spring but I don't know how that would work and it may lead me back to the same problem I'm in now.

But, if you can afford it you should bite the bullet and buy 4 brand new springs. You will be amazed at the ride difference. Of course shocks on top of that would be a big upgrade.

I ended up ordering the OME - hoping they may arrive by Monday but if I have to put off the fix until Wednesday, it will be worth it.
And I appreciate the offer Abran, I probably would have jumped on it yesterday, BUT can see what you're saying regarding going all new. It makes sense.

Can you use the OME springs with stock shocks? Don't think that will work as they'll be over extended. As far as I know, you need the longer OME shocks to properly work with the springs. Otherwise a new set of OEM springs would be the preferred option. Kind of curious how to break a spring BTW.

As for the springs, I'd kind of like to know the same thing. I'm the second owner of this Land Rover, never take it offroad (aside from the occasional 2 track to family cottage), etc. and this is the THIRD coil spring I've had break.

In your ownership have you ever swapped the shocks?
If not the chances are the worn shocks are letting the springs get a helluva beating, leading to the repeated failing.
I definitely wouldn't replace just the springs this time, due to one having broken, as I would suspect bad shocks were the reason.
