the dealer would have started with $799.00 for the new drive shaft (still has sealed u-joints), then add $135 per hr. labor.

Not quite. They are 3/8" bolts.
I'm assuming you mean you used a 14mm wrench.

I decided to rebuild! so far not going to bad but can anyone identify the part in the attached pic? When I pulled the 2nd spider out and the ball slid away from the assembly it came out of the housing? I'm sure its part of the ball assembly but in the pdf it doesn't say? thanks for any help

Looks like the seal for the centering ball.

Default Greasing the Prop shaft

Hey everybody,

I've got a Tom Woods shaft installed in my 04 disco and I'm trying to grease everything up but there is one flush zerk that I can't reach without taking the prop shafts off (it is inside one between the two ujoints). So my question is, how do I take the rear prop shaft off? I removed the four bolts that attach the shaft to the emergency brake drum but I couldn't collapse the shaft to get the shaft to drop. If I remove the four bolts that attach the shaft to the rear diff, will that be enough to get the right angle to get into the cordon unit?

I don't know if I'm explaining it the right way.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Not sure, would a flexible grease gun hose work? I have one that can fit in some tight places.

On another note: Regarding my rebuild, not fun but finished it! I had a difficult time getting the spiders in the caps w/out letting pins drop off the sides, I would suggest getting the proper tools to pull u joint and the correct clamp to put caps on. I started using the socket push through method and it took a long time. It was straight forward getting the shaft off the truck. This job requires a bit more know how than I have so I had a bit of a learning curve! Now for wire and plug replacement and 60K will be done. The pdf for the shaft rebuild helped out a lot, my suggestion is print it out or you might end up with some funk on your computer.

if your talking about the zerk on the centering ball, then yes.. gotta drop it to get to that booger. I have not found another option, but maybe these forum folks are holding out.
