Default Replacing the stock radio

I'd like to replace my stock radio with one with at least an aux input - bluetooth audio would be nice too.

What I know nothing about is the wiring. Can you get adapters from the current multiplugs to the new radio? Or do they plug straight in?

If anyone could post an actual part they've used successfully, that would be great.

This is a subject I know nothing about. I've fitted lots of radios, but always to older cars, where you are cutting wires and soldering.

Thanks!

I think for the same price you can send your radio in to some guy and he'll put an aux in there. I'm sure its ridiculously easy to do, I just wouldn't know how until I saw it myself lol.

Mark,

This topic has been covered many, many times.

1)Click the search tab above.

2)Click on advanced search

3)Type "Aftermarket Radio" in search area

4) Select "Search Titles Only"

5) Select the "D2" forum so you don't see results from LR3, freelander, ....

6) Click search

Everything you could ever want to know is right there. Pour a cup of coffee and start reading.

The problem is the radio occupies a 1 1/2 DIN hole in the dash. Most replacement units are either 1 or 2 DIN.

I had mine done at a reputable stereo store by people with experience fabricating so they made a small trim piece to fill the hole left by the 1 DIN head unit i had installed.

Yes, there are adapter kits for both the stereo and the steering wheel controls. Check the Crutchfield site for info on which ones fit your D2, and then shop ebay for the same kits. It can be done without soldering.

One thing to keep in mind is that there were a few different stereo systems installed from the factory, Alpine and Harmon Kardon. The amp is not in the head unit, it's under one of the seats.

I had a new amp put under the passenger seat, JL Audio 300 watt 3 channel. Two channels run the front door and A pillar speakers, the third runs the 10 inch sub i have in the rear. The factory amp still runs the rear door speakers.

As mentioned above, lots of info here to read up on.
