Replacing Transmission
#11
My mechanic just quoted me $2,000 for the installation, I am going to get another quote as well.

I can attest to the durability and reliability of the ZF Transmissions used in Discovery 2 models. My unit has 230,000k on her and when I first bought the truck afew years ago a intercooler line popped off and drained all the fluid while I was on the highway... was able to get off the road, secure the intercooler line and had just a quart of fresh tranny fluid at my disposal so I added the quart and drove 2 hours to get back home. The tranny was running real rough and I could not exceed 25 mph. RPMs high etc. When I got home I replaced the filter and flushed the tranny twice and it was fine for 1.5 years. Recently a critical but small seal failed inside the transmission which requires the removal of the tranny in order to replace the seal. SO I decided it would be worth having the entire unit rebuilt, cleaned up and put back in my truck. I played $2,385 for the rebuild. The shop I went to specializes in Transmissions. So use my numbers as a reference.

Awe I see. In my original post I mistakenly used the term "intercooler". What I ment to say is "transmission oil cooler lines". And more to the point; I misinterpreted your response as suggesting that the transmission oil cooler has nothing to do with the transmission. That is why I jumped on your post. But I was wrong and used the wrong terminology so my apologies.
