Default Replacing VSS in 98 Disco 1

We've been having this continuous problem of losing power (gas?) when we are accelerating above 50 mph...it is intermittent...the RPM's don't really show anything...it just hesitates, then goes, then hesitates, then goes, etc. We have a temporary fix for our Cat (pipe in its place) and need to go ahead and put a new cat in it...and perhaps replace the O2 sensors too (100,000 mi), but it shows all the symptoms of a bad VSS from what I've read.

How hard would it be for a non-mechanic to replace the VSS? Would the O2 sensors alone be causing this same problem too? Or just contributing to it? We tried Seafoam twice and are putting 93octane gas in it now.

It's becoming very frustrating[:@]

vehicle speed sensor?

Today it also did something unusual when it started messing up...the speedometer went down to 0 then back up to 60...did that a couple of times. The check engine light started blinking...then went back to being lit constantly. The rpm's were also affected too...the episodes only lasted a few minutes then it goes back to being fine.

It is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!

We will find out tomorrow. When it was coding before it was indicating that 5 & 7 were misfiring. We had a mechanic (who doesn't have the code machine a LR needs for more info) checked the new plugs and wires which cleared for a while and then it reappeared again...we have not checked it again...we have a new mechanic that has the equip necessary for a LR.

The ABS light is also on...will check that too but I know I need new pads on the rear wheels.

Any other thoughts?
