Is anything after 3.5k RPM purely esthetics? I never seen the car change gear above that.. Unless I have a problem I dont know about. If its not a problem... my question is why? haha.

Yeah that is what I mean, 5200? How.. keeping the auto tranny in 3rd? The auto tranny never shifts at higher than 3.5.

keep it in a gear, start in first, floor it when it gets to 5200 rev limiter will kick in, the rpm will continue to go up that high in any gear.

I don't advise you to try this, 5200 rs is a little rough on this motor, but yes the rev limiter is set close to 5200

Hey, if your tach is at zero it is likely that your alternator is about to fail. This happened to me, and seems to be a common problem.

In regards to the level that the tach goes to, it is possible to get your vehicle to shift high, just do what they said. It is helpful when you are in say, 1st gear on the main gearbox and low range on the transfer case, the engine will go this high. Just driving it on the road should never really get over 3.5 at most--if it does, you better be on a hill, or just accelerating way too fast for these monsters. Most automatic vehicles have a tach that goes to about 8000, but the rev limiters hit around 5500-6500. I think the main reason is just parts interchangeablity, very rare Discos exist that are manual, and in a manual transmission you will go higher than an auto. Also, these are high compression, high torque engines, and as far as I know this means that they operate at peak output at a lower range, which is why its so easy to speed in a Discovery, the tach is low and the engine is just humming along, whereas in most cars you can see the engine straining to keep up. I dunno, thats my theory!
