Rhythmic tick from bottom of front cover
32mm spanner to get it off, if I remember right. You can give it a good whack to start it off, or use a 10mm wrench to hold one of the WP pulley bolts as you break it free. After that it just spins off.
Standard 1' long adjustable wrench fits and loosens/tightens my fan.
I hit the wrench handle with a dead blow hammer once and it breaks loose.
The original fan came off as easily also.
I have a fan wrench set too, but the adjustable jaws are wider, and it's easier to grab the wrench than open the plastic case for the fan wrench.

After fighting with the fan last weekend for 4 hours I bought a wrench set. Came off in 3 minutes. A few hours later I got the front cover off. Here is the oil pump gear and a video showing the play in the chain. I'm hopeful that this was the noise I was hearing. What else should I be looking at in here. I'm going to replace the pump gears and the chain.

Which fan tool did you get? I tried to get mine off with this one yesterday but couldn’t get it.

and the accompanying flat spanner.
hot 15 at idle and 45 at 2000 rpm
Timing cover gasket mating surface and gears all cleaned up. New chain installed. Need to borrow an inch pound torque wrench from a friend tomorrow so I can install the oil pump cover correctly.
