Default The Right Stuff

So I've heard of the right stuff by Permatex being used for the oil pan, but how about for the timing cover?

Mine is leaking, and looking at the thin new paper gasket I can kind of see why.. So if it is such good stuff, has anyone else used it for the timing cover?

I use this stuff for anywhere there's a metal to metal joint that uses a paper gasket.

For the engine, I prefer to use the original gaskets with no gasket makers. The only place I used sealant was the valley pan edges and the oil pan rear bearing cap area (either Right stuff or ultra black oil resistance). I do use Permatex high tack gasket sealant to dress the paper gaskets (including timing cover, throttle body, valve covers, etc).

If I had to use sealant on the timing cover instead of the paper gasket, I would use Permatex Anaerobic Gasket maker (it's red, in a blue bottle) because it is a tight fitting machined surface and the sealant won't harden in the presence of air, so it won't gum up the engine with RTV. I used this stuff exclusively for the transfer case, and so far so good.

To clarify, I still use the paper gasket but the aviation sealant not only keeps the gasket from moving around on assembly it also adds a moisture barrier. RTV is not advisable since if it gets into the exhaust stream it will ruin your O2 sensors.

Well, I ended up using the paper gasket today. Then I discovered a stripped thread for the oil cooler line.

I'll have to use another cover that I have laying around after I check the oil pump. I may use The Right Stuff to install it, if my new gaskets do not come in tomorrow or Friday.
