Default On-Road Driving: 18" vs 16"

Hey guys,

My 2000 Disco has 16" wheels and some high quality rubber, and my 2004 has 18" wheels and highER quality rubber.

The 2004 is as smooth as glass cruising 81mph on the freeway, but the 2000 is shaky beyond 65.

Not terrible, but it's definitely shaky.

I want to go with 16s on the 2004, so I can off-road, but I am not willing to give up the smoothness.

My question is... can you have as smooth of a ride with 16s as you can 18s?

Thanks!

Pat

The fact that the 16's shake is not because they are 16's but they are either out of balance, have bad tread wear or low on air.

The 16's will give a better ride because they will absourbe the bumps because of a thicker side wall.
The more rubber between you and the road the smoother the ride.
I agree with Mike, have your tires rotated and balanced and see what happens.
Or do this yourself, swap the tires from the 2 trucks and then see what one rides smoother.
