Default Rocker Panel Sourcing/Replacement

Hi all,

Curious if anyone on here has had any luck sourcing rocker panel replacements for a DII? Also, does anyone know if they are interchangeable? The body shop is telling me that they can source one for the right side but the left is discontinued. An ad on ebay indicates that they are interchangeable?

TIA,

Christina

Thanks Walt! To answer your question, I'm not quite sure... I've got the Rover at the body shop for a bumper replacement and asked them to take a look at repairing the rocker panels as they are crumbling (rust ending up on the driveway). I'm assuming it's the sill. Pillar to wheel? God, I need to learn more about the anatomy of my Rover

Will these work if the rocker panel is completely disintegrated? These look like they may be just patches/repair sleeves?... The right rocker panel/sill is still intact but the driver side is completely shot and cannot be used as a template to fabricate one. I'm game for using these - just curious if anyone has replaced theirs and what did they use? Am I overthinking this? The body shop is quoting me $1500 to do each side!

Thanks,

Christina

@KernowDiscovery The simplest would be to shoot them an email, older jeeps used to rot at the rear left and you could get a piece to weld in cut out the bad and replace the section. The rocker or sill is pretty light weight material

If you go the email route ask the shop for some pictures you can send it would help.

Thanks Richard (and Walt!) - Yeah, I'll contact them and see what they say. It definitely looks like a viable option. I don't know why I thought Rocker Panels/sills would be hard core heavy metal Maybe because they play an integral role in holding everything together? That and the body shop stated that they didn't do 'old school fabricating' (bending metal, etc.)

I called a salvage yard earlier today and he gave me some ideas for local places that may be able to help.

thanks again,

C-

I ended up ordering the right outer rocker panel off the net and am going to have one fabricated for the left side here in town. Looks like it will be 3 weeks for shipping (UK) and then a little more for the weld shop. I have a list of repairs that I'm checking off one by one with the hopes of feeling confident that Bertha will be back on the road this summer. Numerous shops have told me that I can drive her around town but I just want to feel safe, you know?...

Thanks for all of the input!

Just a little update if anyone is interested The right rocker panel arrived a few weeks ago and I took it to the welder. They were really cool about fabricating the left side but said that it could take some time and $$$ as they were quite busy and they'd have to make sure all of the holes were in the right location seeing as they were making a mirror image of the right. Seeing as no one could locate the left rocker panel in the US, due to it being discontinued, I ended up searching in the UK for the part and lo and behold found limited stock with John Craddock Ltd. They said that they had ONE in stock and that they could ship it over - would take a couple of weeks. It was estimated roughly $50 less than what it would cost to fabricate it so I figured why reinvent the wheel... just get it.

It arrived today!! I now have 2 rocker panels in my grubby little hands and they will be installed soon! So exciting!! OH, and in the interim, I had the roof repainted AND the bumper has been replaced. Now onto valve cover gaskets....

My mom said that I'm one strange girl....
