Roof rack help

I've seen people that have drilled holes in their roof rails to accept D1 crossbars, probably the cheapest solution. I have strapped 4-9 foot plus longboards on a D1 rack and driven at highway speeds for long trips with no issues. As long as the straps are attached to the roof rails it ensures the crossbars don't come loose.

I just bought an Ascend FS12T from bass pro last week so I've been looking for an easier solution than those dang Yakima foam blocks on the roof.
Doing some reading last night I came across this other forum and I'm kinda starting to think I may go with the buffalo tool van rack, since the 04 roof bars don't have any options at all that I can find.
