Roof rack lighting help

The reason they do that is that in most (if not all) states it's illegal to operate auxiliary lights without the headlights being on. Kind of a CYA thing IMO. There are "work arounds" but I"m not going into detail on a public forum but I will say that that wire would need the same input that an operating headlight would provide.

Depending upon where you will be mounting the relay, go to the closest headlight, turn the high beams on, then probe the wires coming out of the back of the headlight with a test light or DVOM to find the wire that has power, then turn off the lights and make sure the power is not there with the high beams off. Now you've found your signal wire.

According to the RAVE electrical diagram, in living color, the high beam wire is blue and orange and appears thru fuse 9 and fuse 22 under dash. Each side of truck is separate fuse.
Please - use a relay to switch your lights, and be sure everything you attach to battery power has a fuse nearby. The truck you save may be your own.

So I ran the wires and got everything cleaned up. Still have no idea how to hook it up through the lights. I ran the switch directly to the battery pos terminal and everything works. I would like to just leave it on the battery but will that continue to draw a d eventually kill my battery?

You can use a fuse tap, like this:
Cooper Bussmann/ATM fuse tap (BP-HHH-RP) | Fuse and Accessories | AutoZone.com
and tap the power for the switch off there. Then just one wire out to the relay.
