Default Roof rack rails

Hello,

Just wondering what the max. load on the stock roof rack rails is? I just installed a couple second hand Volvo cross bars.

Thanks!

Hi, do Volvo rails actually fit on the D2?

Do you have a picture of them installed and any info on what Volvo they come off of?

Thanks

Ya - they fit really well (they are the cross bars - not the rails) - unfortunately I don't know what Volvo they came off of but I might take them into the local Volvo place to find out (I bought them second hand from a buy who had a different SUV that they fit on - they have no info on them themselves). I'll take a pic and post it of the fit - it's really quite tight.

Anybody have any ideas on weight limits?

I think it is 110lbs, most OEM roof racks are but I do not know for 100%.

I recall its around 100lbs. Do you have an owners manual? Pretty sure that's where i saw it. I will take a look tonight and let you know if you cant find it.

I sure hope it's not 100 lbs, because I tend to haul about 300 lbs of equipment for work on the roof of mine (mainly extension ladders)... Although I did come across & installed a used set of the roof rack extensions which might help in my situation... I do use aftermarket crossbars though

From the owners manual, our favorite version of "Brit Lit":

Roof rack load (including weight of roof rack)†
110 lb (50 kg) ON ROAD
66 lb (30 kg) OFF ROAD

So, if you run down Bigfoot, it a'int gonna hold him. Same if you catch Shamu on that flyrod in the mountain stream. BTW, extension ladders do plenty of damage to cars following behind you when they come off, be sure to have enough insurance.
