Rough Idle
I'd get a cheap spark plug tester from an auto store or harbor freight and check all 8 cylinders for spark. I once had a CPS going out that caused an awful rough idle, but it eventually set a fault code. Only other time I've had an idle like that was a messed up Bosch Purge Control Valve, and a bad coil pack.
I'm currently staying in Sedona, gonna take my car to this Indy shop in Phoenix and hopefully they'll have the parts on hand. I did the diff seal and rear driveshaft in my hotel parking lot. I've had enough for this week in this heat. Hopefully they can fix it and I can get home and back to work. It doesn't sound like somethings wrong inside the engine to you guys?
it started dripping pretty slowly and then after a day of wheeling in Moab it just started dripping out a ton of oil. Breather was melted a while ago, I replaced it. That may have been the cause
Hmmm. It doesn’t sound internal to the engine (bearing etc). But I’m not too sure.
I wonder if the diff oil got in the 02 sensor harness... still seems a long shot. But that seems possible. Even with a dead 02 sensor it should run at least semi-decently on cold start in closed loop mode shouldn’t it?
And good luck. You are in the thick of it, for sure.

My thoughts -
With the engine you have two real demons to wrestle - heat & oil pressure. if both of these are in normal range I would give you a 99% chance of making it home. If you have been driving in the Arizona heat without a problem I would think cooling is doing ok.
A walked cam bearing would have an impact on oil pressure I think.
If it makes power and has good oil pressure and decent engine temps throughout the speed and rpm range, go for it.

My first question would be...does your CEL illuminate when you turn the key on? If it works, and you have no codes...l'd drive it. May be a bad tank of fuel. It seems to clear out and run okay off idle, and like mentioned, the excessive noise may just be a cracked manifold or y-pipe gasket.
No CEL, I have an UG too and I even checked pending codes. Took it to an indie (Rov N Tech) in Phoenix and they determined it was failed fuel injector O-rings. Hope that helps somebody and I hope they're right when I get my truck back tomorrow afternoon
With that diagnosis, I am surprised you are not throwing any codes. That is a pretty simple job if you have the time and a place to do it where it is not as hot as standing on the surface of the sun.
